Cooperative Vocational Education Program (Co-op)

Grades 10-12 ¼ Credit per 100 hours - up to 1 Credit Per Year

Definition & Purpose: The cooperative experience shall be a program of vocational education for students who, through a mutual arrangement between the school and employers, receive instruction, including required academic courses and related vocational instruction, by alternation of study in school with a job in an occupational field. These two experiences must be planned, supervised, and related to the students course of study and chosen occupation. Each should contribute to the students education as well as to his/her employability.

Work Periods & Credit: The length of the work period may vary according to occupational field and individual student needs. It is, therefore, possible for a cooperative experience to extend over a single marking term, a semester, or a school year. The cooperative work experience at the Region 9 Vocational Center is to be scheduled in addition to the regularly scheduled classes.

Students will receive ¼ credit for each 100 hours of satisfactory enrollment in the Cooperative Vocational Education Program. A maximum of one credit shall be awarded during a period of one school year.
