LOCATION - Concord is in Merrimack County. Take Interstate 93 and watch for the Concord exits.

 

GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES - The Merrimack River goes through Concord. Kimball Park is on North State Street. Crappone Park is on Rumford Street. White Park is on Washington Street. Rollins Park is on Broadway Street.

 

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS - The tourist attractions in Concord include the Capital Center for the Arts. At the Capital Center for the Arts, you get to see all kinds of pictures. The Christa McAuliffe Planetarium in Concord. At the planetarium you learn about space and astronauts. The Museum of New Hampshire History is where you learn about the state's history. The State House is the business house for the government. The New Hampshire International Speedway is where you would go to see car racing. It is in Loudon, ten miles North of Concord.

 

POPULATION - The number of people in Concord is 37,850.

 

BUSINESSES - The Concord Antique Gallery is where you get antiques. L.L.Bean Factory Store is where you shop. The Steeple Gate Mall is a mall. New England College, NH Technical College, and the Franklin Pierce Law Center are also in Concord.

 

HISTORY - Penacook was an Abenaki word. It means the "crooked place." Passaconaway was a sachem of the Penacook.

In 1815, the Middlesex Canal was opened, connecting Boston to Concord. Timothy Walker was the first minister in Concord. The state's first shoe factory opened in Concord in 1823. Stephen Abbott and Lewis Downing made the famous Concord Coaches of Concord in 1826. In 1890, the Concord Coach Company produced about two thousands coaches.
