LOCATION -Laconia is on Paugus Bay and Lake Winnisquam. To get to Laconia you take Route 3 across Lake Winnisquam or go on Route 3 to Union Avenue right to Laconia. Laconia is in Belknap County.

 

GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES -In or near Laconia, there are many lakes and ponds. There are many beautiful parks. Some of the lakes you can go to are Lake Winnipesaukee, Lake Winnisquam, Pauqus Bay and Opechee Bay.

 

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS -There are many hotels and cabins you can rent in Laconia. There are many great views of lake, mountains,and great trails you could bike on. If you're looking for some place nice to eat, Laconia is the place to go. People love to go to shops and resorts. If you come to Laconia, you can get a good price for a hotel. If it's winter, you can go to Gilford and go to the ski resort called Gunstock . The other town Laconia is near is Weirs Beach. Some of the most fun things that happen in Laconia are the Quilt Show, Craft Festival, and the Annual Bavarian Fall Foliage Festival.

 

POPULATION -The population of Laconia is 17,053.

 

BUSINESSES - The Greater Laconia/Weirs Beach Chamber of Commerce is a great place to get information. Some of the other business buildings are the Moccasin Shop, Kawasaki-Yamaha of Laconia, Dexter Shoe Factory Outlet, and the Handy Landing Dockside Shops. Down town Laconia has many shops to visit.

 

HISTORY -There are many stories about Laconia. One is about the huge Indian head in the Opechee Park. There are many museums that you could find the stories in.

The settlers first came to Laconia in 1652, but no more could come to Laconia until 1763, after the war was over. Most of the people that came to Laconia were farmers looking for land. The nineteenth century was Laconia's Industrial Age. Belknap Mill was built in 1823. It was the oldest brick textile mill in the entire country.
