LOCATION - Rochester is in Strafford County. One of the best ways to get to Rochester is to get on the Spaulding Turnpike. Exits 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 will bring you to Rochester.

 

GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES - The Cocheco River and the Salmon Falls River flow through Rochester. There are many small lakes in Rochester. Beaches are within 30 minutes from the city. Boston is 74 miles South of Rochester. The White Mountains are an hour North.

 

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS - The Rochester Opera House has many plays. Governor's Inn is a restaurant that offers murder mystery dinner theater. The Rochester State Fair attracts people from all over the region.

 

POPULATION - The estimated population of Rochester is 28,350.

 

BUSINESSES - Rochester employs many people in local businesses. Cabletron makes computer components. Prime Tanning produces leather goods. The Lilac Mall offers lots of jobs. There is a small airport in Rochester called the Skyhaven Airport.

 

HISTORY - Rochester was one of the first towns in New Hampshire to become a town. Rochester was settled in 1728. It use to be called Norway Plains. Rochester became a city in 1891.
