LOCATION - On the western border of Charlestown, there is the Connecticut River and it is 16 miles long. You can get across the Connecticut River because there is a bridge over the River. Charlestown is in Sullivan County.

 

GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES -There is the Connecticut River and there is a long bridge over it. There is the Little Sugar River and there is Great Brook.

 

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS -There is Strawberry picking and Blueberry picking in Charlestown. There is Maple syruping, Cross Country Skiing, the Winter Carnival, Yard Sale Day and Old Home Day, and the Fishing Derby. There are 16 miles of frontage on the Connecticut River for boating, fishing and water sports. Fort Number 4 is now a museum.

 

POPULATION -In 1996, there were 4,868 people in Charlestown.

 

BUSINESSES - One of the businesses in Charlestown is the Charlestown Tire Company. Another one of the businesses is the Cochise Card Connection. There is the Wakeman Industries, Inc. which makes compressed gas.

 

HISTORY -In 1735, Massachusetts set up settlements in New Hampshire and numbered them from 1 to 4. In 1770, Stephen Farnsworth and his brothers, Samuel and David, came to No.4. By 1743, there were ten families there. In 1744,the fort was built to protect the people from the Indians and the French during the French and Indian War.
