LOCATION - Claremont is in Sullivan County, on the west side of NH. Vermont, Charlestown, Newport, and Cornish are surrounding Claremont.

 

GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES - Claremont has a lot of brooks in it. The Grandy Brook, Spring Farm Brook, Redwater Brook, Stevens Brook, Hubbard Brook, Gallery Brook, Meadow Brook, Sugar River, Dole Reservoir, Connecticut River, and Rice Reservoir are all in Claremont.

 

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS - Claremont has a lot of parks. Moody Park has hiking trails, cross country skiing, picnic areas, and tennis courts. Arrowhead has picnic areas, hiking trails, sledding, out door entertaining, and wedding receptions. Barnes Park has athletic fields, a skate board park, and a skating rink. Monadnock Park has athletic fields, tennis courts, cross country skiing, and a skating rink. The Claremont Opera House is a big opera house. A band played there with over 50 people playing.

 

POPULATION - The population of Claremont is about 14,000 people.

 

BUSINESSES - Some of the main businesses in Claremont are the Monadnock Mills, the Chamber of Commerce, Wal Mart, A & M Automotive Parts, and Golden Cross Ambulance, Inc.

 

HISTORY - Claremont was the first town to have a Roman Catholic Church. It was founded in 1823. Claremont was started in 1764 and became a town in 1947. Claremont took some land from another town to become a city in 1823. The Claremont Police Department has been in service for over 111 years and the Claremont Town Hall was built in 1860.
