HISTORY - In 1763, Benning Wentworth gave the charter for the new Town of Sandwich. Daniel Beede led the first group of settlers. In November 1767, the first log cabin was built in the town . In 1769, Daniel Beede surveyed the land for the town of Sandwich.
The first minister who came to Sandwich was Elder Jacob Jewell in 1778. In 1790, the first doctor came to Sandwich. He was Dr. Asa Crosby. The first lawyer in Sandwich was James Otis Freeman in 1798.
Between 12-23 Sandwich men served in the war of 1812. Sandwich was the ninth largest town in New Hampshire in 1830. In 1847, there were 25 school districts in Sandwich.
