County History

Drawing of a Courthouse by Zach H.

Sullivan County was formed in 1842. Sullivan was formed from the top of Cheshire County to provide more court services. Sullivan County provides a courthouse, hospital, jail, and a county farm for the poor and the sick. At the courthouse, the people keep records when people are born and when people die. The courthouse is located in the county seat which is in Newport.

The Cornish Windsor Bridge

I am the Cornish Windsor Bridge.

It has been a year since I was built.

Cars didn't drive over me- wagons did.

I was built by hand.

Men came over with barrels full of wood to make me.

Now, I'm falling down.

But, with some nails and boards

I will be the Cornish Windsor Bridge

that I was 100 years ago.
