TRANSPORTATION

by Calvin

Transportation in Colonial New Hampshire was difficult. People used gundalows, wagons, oxen, horses, and sleighs, but most people got around by walking. Boats and wagons were used for taking people places. Certain boats like gundalows were used around 1650 to haul freight and passengers up and down settlements. A gundalow was a flat boat with a sail.

It was for heavy loads. Gundalows were only used in New Hampshire. The first highways were rivers.
