AWARDS:

 Ladybug Picture Book Award The Ladybug Picture Book Award is designed to promote early literacy and honor the best in recent children's picture books. A committee of children's librarians from around New Hampshire selected 10 picture book titles in the spring. Then, during Children's Book Week in November, New Hampshire children from preschoolers to those in third grade vote to select the award winner. The award is a project of the Center for the Book at the New Hampshire State Library.

 

  Great Stone Face Award is given annually to an author whose book receives the most votes from fourth through sixth grade children throughout the state of New Hampshire. The award was established in 1980 and is sponsored by CHILIS (Children's Librarians of New Hampshire). Click for a list of past winners or current nominees.

 

Caldecott Medal has been awarded annually since 1938. This award, under the supervision of the American Library Association, is presented to the illustrator of the most distinguished picture book for children published in the United States during the preceding year.

 

 

 

 Newbery Medal has been awarded annually since 1922 . This award, under the supervision of the American Library Association, is given to the author of the most distinguished contribution to literature for children published in the United States during the preceding year.

 

Coretta Scott King Award was designed to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and honor his wife, Coretta Scott King. It is given annually to one black author and to one black illustrator whose books are outstanding, inspirational, and educational contributions to literature for children and young people.

 Scholastic Book Talks: Booktalking is one of the most effective way to get kids reading.  Entice young readers to open a book … engage their interest … invite them into a story. You are free to use these booktalks in a live verbal presentation without express permission or acknowledgement. You may either quote them word-for-word, or excerpt or adapt them any way you like. Be creative - make these booktalks your own and add them to your repertoire!
