ABOUT THE NEW DURHAM PTO

The New Durham Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is comprised of parents and teacher representatives of the New Durham Elementary School. Any parent can participate in the New Durham PTO by attending the monthly meetings, submitting topics for input at meetings, volunteering with the fund raising efforts, or just simply to providing input on topics that concern or interest you, for the betterment of our children's education and more importantly--their future.

At our meetings we brainstorm ideas for fundraising and support great programs, such as:

First Day Celebration

Teacher Appreciation Breakfast

Fundraising for School Playground Equipment

School Field Trips/Ferry Beach Ecology School Audio/Video Equipment

Meetings are held 3rd Thursday of the month. The following information briefly describes the venue of the PTO Advisory meetings and general PTO meetings.

 

PTO ADVISORY MEETINGS - 6:00 PM - Conference Room in Office

This forum is for addressing school-related issues. Issues that have been addressed in the past include homework policies, walker release procedures, educational programs and structured recess. If you have an issue you would like to have addressed, please come to this meeting and help make a difference.

PTO BUSINESS MEETINGS - 6:30 PM - New Durham School Library

The PTO business meetings are about fund-raising and choosing how to spend our budget to best support education, brainstorm new ideas, rehash old ideas and meet parents and teachers with similar goals in mind. It is a great way to stay in touch with the school community and to help by chairing a committee, bringing new ideas to the table, or just to see what is happening at the school.  Remember, if you can not make a meeting, the minutes to previous meetings are posted on this website.  Also, if you would like to be added to the PTO email list, send an email to less@worldpath.net with the following in the subject area:  NEW ADDITION TO PTO EMAIL LIST.

FUNDRAISING

            PLAYGROUND FUNDRAISING UPDATE

                        The PTO fundraising efforts culminated in the purchase of two pieces of playground equipment last spring.  A dual mono-rail and a mobius climbing structure are slated to be installed on the New Durham Elementary school playground in October of 2006.

                        The PTO was able to successfully surpass its goal of raising $10,000 for the new playground equipment.  Additionally, through the generosity of many individuals and businesses, the PTO was able to realize this goal much earlier than anticipated.  Although the playground area will be professionally prepared, we will need volunteers to help assemble and install the monorail and mobius.  Look for information in an upcoming newsletter or contact one of the PTO officers if you are interested in helping with the installation.
