- Treasurer’s Report: Chris Sawyer reported a working balance of $1,693.66. This is one of the largest carry forward balances, usually it’s around $1,000. Encumbered funds are $50 Coffee/Tea for Coffee Hour, $500 Healthy Girls/Boys, $100 Repaint 4 Square, $250 School Smiles, $3.10 Magnet School Calendar & $50 Pencils/Holder. Motion to allocate $30 for parent reimbursement for snacks for Healthy Boys made by Cathy Koukal, seconded by Janet Tognazzi, all in favor. Motion to unallocate the $3.10 for Magnet School Calendars made by Cathy Koukal, seconded by Kristie Smith, all in favor. Motion to accept treasurer’s report made by Cathy Koukal, seconded by Karen Abraham, all in favor.
- New Business
- Introductions & Welcome – Everyone in attendance introduced themselves & stated their connection to TCS. Pieces of paper & markers were sent around the room to make signs with each person’s name on them.
- Sally Foster – Barbara Steensma advised that the catalogs should arrive 9/14. The kick-off date is 9/19; the orders are due 10/18. The PTCO earns 50% profit on this fundraiser which is a huge return. Barbara needs one parent per classroom to assist with sorting orders when they arrive. There is a new catalog this year. Our net revenue was $3,594 last year which was lower than normal. Barbara will be sending home a note with the catalogs asking that each student’s order form be tallied before it is returned as this makes her job much easier.
- Christmas Bazaar – Karen Abraham reported that 27 tables have been sold to date. The deadline is October 12th. The tables are $35 each; our capacity is 40-44. Motion to allocate $350 towards advertising was made by Kristie Smith, seconded by Tricia Bonenfant, all in favor. Anne Lennon will help Karen with advertising.
- Telephone & Volunteer Directory – Chris Sawyer will be publishing the directory. Jen Coulter offered use of her folding machine. Chris advised that the PTCO is looking for a Room Parent/PTCO Delegate from each classroom to attend the PTCO meetings. The PTCO is looking for an Information Coordinator to maintain a PTCO bulleting board to include newspaper clippings of students & a small area for classifieds (ex. to post a bike your child has outgrown). Volunteers are needed for Coffee Hour set-up & clean-up. Coffee Hour is the Friday after each PTCO meeting from 7:45-8:45am. A “go-to” person is needed for the Drama Production.
- Goals for 2007 – 2008
- Weather Station – Renee Horton reported that she has only been able to find one weather station for $284.95. The weather station will be in the main lobby. We are looking for a quality unit to use with the curriculum & to determine the wind chill for safety purposes for outdoor recess. Kelly Colby Seavey will ask her husband to research a unit for us as this is a hobby of his.
- Lego Club – Renee Horton reported that Ossipee Central School’s Lego Club is very unstructured. Renee felt a guided program would be easier to manage. Lego Education sells teacher kits directly to schools, such as Wheels & Axels for $226. The kits are by ages 5-7 & 6-12. The kits are costly so we may need to limit the number of children the first year but we hope we won’t have to. Cathy Koukal advised that Bob Levin, a former TCS parent & a teacher at KRHS, has some Lego gear kits, etc. that he is willing to donate. A plastic tub of Legos was donated by another resident.
- School t-shirts – Janet Tognazzi will work on getting advertisers so we can give all the students t-shirts this year.
- Invite an Author – Renee Horton advised that we received a brochure from a children’s author that gives talks to children about how she writes books. She will “call for pricing” as the brochure states so we can discuss further.
- Other – Cathy Koukal reminded us this is a TIGER year. Every two years the Plymouth State University Theatre group puts on a production for the whole school which is funded by PTCO. A past topic was bullying.
- Old Business
- Basketball Hoops Update – Chris Sawyer will make some phone calls & try to get them installed ASAP.
- Repaint Four Square Pad – Janet Tognazzi’s husband painted it over the summer. It looks great; thank you.
- First Annual Back to School Ice Cream Social – Tina Antonucci reported there were approximately 87 people in attendance. The feedback was very positive. It was very successful & should be an annual event.
- Yearbook Feedback – It was great. There were tons of photos & it was inexpensive. Thank you to Margie Fuller, Tricia Bonenfant, Jen Coulter & Phyllis Tessier.
- Magnetic Calendar Feedback – The calendars are great & very handy. The only comment was that the blue & purple colors are very similar.
- Pencils & Holder – Renee Horton advised that the pencils & holder were purchased. The pencils will be for sale in the office for $0.25.
- Thank you’s – A very nice thank you note was received from Nate Kenison-Marvin, the recipient of last school year’s scholarship.

- Other – Police Chief Andy Shagoury advised that a representative from the State Dept. of Transportation met with the Selectmen, the Town Administrator & himself to discuss DOT’s promotion of safe transportation of kids to school. There is only $1 Million in funding available for the entire State. This person was the grant coordinator. The approximate cost per mile for sidewalks is $1 Million. The question was asked whether or not a radar trailer would be effective. The Chief reported that they are not available to be borrowed & cost about $8,500 & that studies show that they are very effective in modifying behavior. Cathy Koukal reported that the light that is not flashing (on the school speed limit sign) will be repaired. A new clock had to be ordered for it.
- Adjournment – Motion to adjourn made by Chris Sawyer, seconded by Kristie Smith, all in favor. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 7pm in the school library.
All are welcome to attend.
