Minutes of Meeting- June 9, 2009

Present: Emily Seigars, Sarah Day, June Zavas, Patti Edson, Bill Douglass, Kelly Demain, Deanna Cayon, Lauren Fleet, Jean Schultz

1. Meeting was called to order by Kelly Demain.
2. Motion to accept April minutes was made by Patti Edson and seconded by Kelly Demain
3. Treasurer’s Report

  • No report at this time

4. Principal’s Report
    Bill Douglass

  • Spring Fair went well. (Thank you, Patti!)
  • “Pirates” show was a huge success.
  • 4th grade NECAPS
  • NWEA testing just finished up.  Testing allows us immediate results so that we can compare where kids are now vs. this past fall.
  • Memorial Day Program- band and chorus performs and we honor the country’s heroes and men and women of service.
  • Spring Concert happened last week
  • Civic Oration- in-house extra-curricular activity where students are given specific topics.  Students to go on to compete regionally.
  • Upcoming Events:

5th- Remick Museum on Wed. 6/10
4th- UNH Agricultural Ctr. On Thurs. 6/11
6th- will participate in a collaborative day sponsored by Appalachian Mtn. Teen Project with all 6th grades in the district
5th- pioneer day Fri. 6/12 Dudley the Fiddler to visit. There will be various activities such as quilting.
Promotion Day- Thurs. 6/18
Field Day- Fri. 6/19
Step-up day- Tues. 6/23

  • Walk/Ride to School Day was a great day with lots of participants.

   Jan Brooks (Patti Edson spoke on behalf of Jan Brooks)

  • The school community is still suffering from the loss of Stacey Burns. Pleased, though, with all the support from the greater community.
  • TIGER program went well, despite being held on the day of Stacey Burns’ funeral.
  • Spring Fair went well.
  • Thanks, PTO, for the flowers sent for Teacher Appreciation week
  • Memorial Day Program went well.
  • Power-point presentation of pictures was made along with a gift to honor Kathy McAbe
  • There will be a power-point presentation for Mrs. Astle and Mrs. Goodwin
  • Mr. Thornton, the custodian, has retired.  Mike has taken over his position.
  • Thanks, PTO, for field trips.
  • Field Day- Mrs. Skelley is planning.
  • Step-Up Day- 6/23
  • Thanks to those retiring PTO officers, Deanna Cayon and Emily Seigers. Good luck to Bill Douglass in his new position.
  • Kindergarten registration- 3 classes with 11 students in each
  • CS/CLS music position has been offered but not confirmed

5.Old Business

  • PTO is in agreement that the bank account which was established for the Burns family be transferred to a trust to be managed by Jennifer Haskell, Stacey Burns’ lawyer.  In the fall we will discuss what more the PTO can do for the Burns Family.
  • PTO will support the $100 cost of Pioneer Day.
  • Spring Fair made just under $6000, down from previous year ($7200). In the fall we will further discuss the spring fair
  • Genevieve’s Catalog- board not interested.  We will stay with Kerry for our fall fundraiser.
  • PTO is still looking for a co-president

6.New Business

  • Sept. meeting will be set up via email in the fall once we have open-house dates
  • CLS ski program needs a new coordinator.
  • Volunteer Report- CLS had over 2000 hrs. with 162 volunteers. CS had just under 2000 hrs. with 88 volunteers.  New idea: post sign-in sheets for volunteers in classrooms
  • PTO revamped volunteer sign-up sheet in student handbook.  Removed items no longer in existence and items which typically go through the classroom teacher.  Bingo was added for a volunteer activity

7. Other

  • 3rd grade will go to Wright Museum, unsure of date at this time
  • For 2008-200 school year PTO made $300 in boxtops and has 37,000 points in soup labels
