What is the process to add or drop a course?

Prior to the start of a Quarter or Semester:

1. Make an appointment with your school counselor.
2. You and your school counselor will determine your best options.
3. You may not change into a new course, once a quarter or semester has begun, it is the students responsibility to plan ahead. Students may only make changes to courses in future quarters or semesters.
4. Students are encouraged to utilize the guidance department summer office hours to make changes to first semester courses. Hours are posted in June. As no schedule changes will be made once a semester is under way. Students who have issues in the second semester should also address their concerns prior to the start of a school year, as changes may need to made to a student whole schedule to solve concerns.

If you need to drop a course during a quarter or semester:

1. Make an appointment with your school counselor.
2.
The student and the school counselor will discuss options regarding the reasons a student wishes to withdrawal including the possible consequences.
3.
If it is determined that dropping a course is in the students best interest, the student will be provide a withdrawal request form, in which parent and teacher will have to complete BEFORE a schedule change is made. The student will remain in a course until this form is signed by all parties and returned to the guidance department.
4.
Courses that are dropped will be reflected on a student’s high school transcript with a notation of WP (Withdrawn Passing) or WF (Withdrawn Failing). No credit will be given for partially completed courses. Students who drop a semester course after completing one quarter will see their earned quarter grade, as well as a WP or WF on their transcript.  Withdrawal grades can impact a student’s honor role status for that particular quarter.
5. Once a student has been officially withdrawn from a course, the student will be added to a study hall for the remainder of that quarter.
