Imagine you are working for a company that wants you to travel to another country so that you may gather information to help increase business. You’ll be researching and putting together a presentation as if your job depended on it.
In this assignment, you will be choosing a country to learn about. It may be a country you already know, or it may be some place you’ve wanted to go to but don’t know much about.
First, choose a country. This may take some time. You may want to research a number of countries at the Culturegrams website listed in the next paragraph.
Next, list specific details about its culture. A great website for this is http://online.culturegrams.com. The following items are suggestions to include, but you may include others:
- the language the people speak
- the industry and the way people earn a living
- the food they eat
- their climate
- their leisure activities
- their government
- their money
After researching the country, pick your dates for traveling – what season or month is best for going there? Why did you choose this place? Use 3 details from this research.
You have ten days to travel in your country and $1,000 to spend. If you want, someone may travel with you, but they must pay their own way. You don’t have to pay to get there, and your accommodations will be covered; you don’t need to pay for hotels or inns. You will, however, need to budget to get around, eat, get into the tourist attractions, and anything else you need or want, hint – you do not get to keep unspent money, but you can’t get more either.
Now, choose 3 places in the country that you will visit. They can be cities or regions, or tourist attractions. Explore the different places at www.fodors.com. Record details.
You will have class time to work on this project; we will be using technology from the library media center. It’s important that you have your computer-use paperwork taken care of so you may use the computers during class.
The final copy should include why you chose this country, 2-3 paragraphs about its culture, a description of three places to visit in the country, and a detailed list of how you spent your $1,000 budget.
This project will count as a test grade.
40% will be for use of class time.
30% will be for the notes and rough draft
30% will be for the final work submitted
