The Governor Wentworth Regional School District provides a continuum of placement options and services to meet the educational needs of students with educational disabilities. State and federal regulations require that students with disabilities are educated with non-disabled peers to the maximum extent that is appropriate for their education needs. The Special Education Evaluation and Placement Team must determine placement in any of the special education programs for grades K-12, available in all district schools.
Preschool Programs - Preschool children who require special education receive services with non-disabled peers in public or local private preschools, or day care centers. Related services may be provided within the classroom setting as specified in the child's IEP. Placement options include: Ossipee Integrated Preschool, Wolfeboro Area Children's Center, Ossipee Head Start, Kim's Kiddie Korner, and other private centers throughout the district.
Modified Regular Classroom - A student with an educational disability attends a regular class with modifications in the curriculum including instructional strategies and procedures as specified and recommended in the IEP.
Modified Regular Classroom with Consultation to Teacher - A student with an educational disability attends a regular class. A special education teacher consults with the classroom teacher to provide modifications, instructional strategies, or other supports as determined by the child's IEP.
Modified Regular Classroom with Itinerant Specialist(s) - A student with an educational disability attends the regular class with direct services provided to the student by specialists, (speech and language, occupational therapy, guidance counseling, physical therapy). Individual or group services may be provided in the classroom or in a separate setting within the school, as prescribed by the IEP.
Regular Classroom Plus Resource Room The Resource room programs are designed for students with varying abilities and special education identifications. These students demonstrate a significant delay in some area. Some students may require direct individual or small group instruction in one or more academic areas. Other students may need more modifications and supports in their educational program in order to make educational progress. The resource room may also provide support to successfully include these students in regular classrooms. Instruction in basic skills and daily living skills may also be provided. Students receive resource room services based on the needs as outlined in their individual education plans.
Sequential Transition Education Program - STEP I This program serves students who are identified as having an educational disability and who require significant behavioral intervention to succeed in the school environment. The program provides both behavioral and academic instruction and support. The goal of STEP 1 is to have students successfully return to their regular classroom environment.
